Dusty, the owne of Coosa Outfitters worked with Jeremy Adkins (Team JK) to organize their first annual free pool and river clinics. Clay, Dane, and I rode down together in Clay’s truck, while Sam and Boyd drove from Memphis, Lauren, Kathleen, and Nathan came in their RV, and Jeremy lives around there. Gavin was also there for Fluid.
First off, November 14th and 75 degrees and sunny both days of the weekend was incredible! The pool was outside, which was good because there must have been 100 people there. We taught rolling, bracing, playboating, strokes, and generally had a good time. Shred Ready did their “belly flop” contest during lunch (ham and cheese sandwiches).
That night we stayed at an apartment that Dusty’s dad owns and went to the local pizza joint (Maynards- AWESOME!).
On Sunday one group did an 8 mile class 1 trip in all types of kayaks, while the group Team JK went on was a class 2-3 trip down the Locust Fork, organized by Jeremy. We had close to 50 people on that trip, with many first timers, but also some very experienced paddlers. Rock Spins, slots, surfing, and the grand finale at Ender Hole playspot (really fun spot).
A shuttle back to Gadsen to unload boats, and back to Rock Island by 10pm. Great weekend!
Lauren’s mom took wonderful photos, thanks for that!
p.s. Coosa Outfitters is a welcome new dealer in Alabama, making paddling more fun for everyone!
